Lorri had the great privilege of meeting the Pheng family through a socially conscious tour company called Mango Cambodia. This wonderful company is run by Anji Loman-Field. Anjihad a vision of bringing people from around the world to Cambodia. She wanted tourists to experience the Cambodian lifestyle and to have a chance to meet the people. Through Mango Cambodia, Lorri met Sophea Pheng (better known as “Mr. Happy”) and he took her to meet his family in the rural village Tuol Pongro. He allowed Lorri to volunteer at his family-run English School situated at the bottom of his traditional home build on stilts.

This was the beginning of a long relationship with the Pheng family (Sophea, Sophan, Phanet and their parents). The family-run English School was so impressive, it inspired Lorri and her partner to raise money to help to sustain the school. Instead, enough money was raised to support the construction of a new free-standing English School on the Pheng’s property. With Sophan’s great leadership, this new structure is now going to serve children from 3 surrounding villages. Learning English is the only way that the rural children would have any opportunity to go to post-secondary education.
